Course overview

Welcome to our course on creating an inclusive music teaching studio by developing the skills to teach musical instruments to neurodivergent learners. Designed specifically for instrument teachers and music educators, this course offers practical strategies and resources to engage and inspire neurodiverse students in meaningful and effective ways. By the end of the program, you’ll be equipped with the tools to foster a supportive, adaptable learning environment that celebrates each student’s unique strengths and potential.

Course objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Clearly understand their role in the world of a neurodivergent learner and collaborate effectively with other specialists involved.

  2. Deepen their understanding of neurodivergence (ADHD, autism, dyslexia, Down syndrome), including relevant myths, challenges, and teaching implications.

  3. Conduct a skills audit to identify both their students' strengths and their own teaching capabilities, while learning how intake forms and sensitively managed information can help.

  4. Implement proven strategies for managing and delivering music lessons—including teaching pieces, scales, and supporting students’ individual learning needs.

  5. Optimise their teaching studio to accommodate neurodivergent learners using appropriate resources and tools.

Cost

This course is available for $110 (GST included) per person and includes a morning tea of tea, coffee, and fresh fruit. While lunch is not provided, a variety of food options are just a short walk away. 

Throughout the course, participants will gain access to a variety of valuable resources. Upon completion, participants will receive a professional development certificate.

We’ll let you know if future sessions are planned closer to your area. Additionally, if you can assemble a group of at least 12 colleagues, Justin would be happy to explore the possibility of bringing the course to your location.
