Online music teacher training courses

Every student deserves the chance to learn music. With the right tools and strategies, you can be the teacher who makes that possible.

I am excited to invite you to my upcoming live online courses running from 10:00AM - 4:30PM (with breaks). See below for the list of dates!

Live, online course:

Practical strategies for teaching instruments to neurodivergent students

This live, online course is designed for instrumental music teachers seeking to enhance their practical expertise in differentiation and inclusive teaching practices for neurodivergent students.

Neurodivergent individuals often process sensory input, emotions, and information in unique ways, which can lead to both challenges and strengths within a musical context. Understanding these unique perspectives can help educators create more meaningful and positive learning experiences.

Teachers will explore ways to deepen their understanding of neurodivergence and what this means for them as educators during one-on-one or group instrumental music lessons. They will expand their toolkit of strategies to support the diverse needs of neurodivergent students in both individual and group settings, fostering engagement and success in their musical journeys.

What you'll learn

By the end of this course, you will:

  • Understand your role: Gain a clear understanding of your role in supporting neurodivergent students to progress and thrive through music.

  • Collaborate with confidence: Learn to work effectively with key individuals and specialists within each student’s support network.

  • Deepen your knowledge of neurodivergence: Gain valuable insights into ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and Down syndrome to better understand the unique challenges your neurodivergent students may face during music lessons and the strengths they bring.

  • Create student profiles: Develop comprehensive student profiles to identify each student’s unique strengths, preferences, and needs.

  • Tailor your teaching strategies: Implement personalised, adaptable lesson plans that support individual learning styles and goals, keeping students engaged and excited about learning.

  • Differentiate for meaningful learning: Apply proven strategies for teaching pieces, scales, and technical skills in a way that respects and adapts to each student’s pace and learning needs.

  • Support student success: Help students understand and communicate their needs, using collaborative strategies to create a flexible environment that supports their well-being.

  • Create an inclusive teaching space: Make simple, effective changes to your teaching studio using appropriate resources and tools to foster a more inclusive learning environment for neurodivergent students.
